How to make your Music stand out

5 Ways to Make Money as a Musician Online in 2018 | Patreon Blog

The idea of being unique is basically a fantasy in this day and age. Everyone complains about the music industry being over-saturated but in reality, we’re just scared to stand out.

One of the best progressions any musician makes towards their career is when they discover their “SOUND”, their own style of melodies which eventually goes on to become their signature while writing music.

In a perfect world, this would be the best time to be an independent artist. Not only do you get to keep all the rights to your music, but you also have access to million dollar resources for pennies.

Active Practise: 5 Ways to Level Up Your Guitar Playing - Just ...

Everyone is doing the same exact thing. Producers are making the same beats and artists are biting each other’s style. This creates a stagnancy that would require a massive marketing budget and a long list of connections to break out of. That’s probably the only reason why certain major artists are still relevant… Which means that if you’re still grinding and you sound exactly like 90% of what’s already out there, you’re basically screwed.
If you try to stand out in this industry with your unique style of melodies and your taste you are just basically taking a step forward for you being more recognizable in the music industry.

  • Bear with me here, in order to “STAND OUT” from the crowd, you need to find what you like first. Listen to your favorite artist and try to identify what was the thing which attracted you to them? According to you what is their one thing which makes them different from the rest? Start asking questions about what you listen to and start analyzing the music, it will help understand the dynamics of what makes up a certain style of songwriting.
  • Learn this fact that music has no boundaries, that is what makes it non-linear. Don't let your genre limit you, mix up stuff and take inspiration from any genre that fancies you. Try new chords, new melodic motifs and so on. Not only will this help in increasing your knowledge but will also help you in opening fresh avenues in music-making.
  • Take inspiration from your your favorite artists but don't copy their style and sound as it is. Try to introduce some variations from your own. be yourself as much as possible and do not be afraid to be different.Create whatever melodies, chords and lyrics which come to your mind while being musically rational the whole time.
  • If you are stuck at how to be yourself while making music, you can resort to taking ideas from any artist that you like and you can even use their style while writing, the question is what can you do to make it sound like you did it? It is simple, try twisting and turning the melodies, interchange the chords and even you can change the whole damn KEY! All this will lead you to create something new and unique than it was before.
  • One of the most interesting techniques that I personally use while making music and writing songs is that I write my music "Mindlessly". Do not get me wrong here, I don't just sit down and write nonsense but instead I first create my base like I decide the prominent chords and the key which are going to be used in my music and then I right whatever feels good to me.
  • Prior to my songwriting I do not listen to songs for a few hours to make sure that I subconsciously don't copy someone. In this way I make sure that whatever I create was from my own creative mind.

Hitting the right notes: Here's why being a musician is good for ...

Your goal is to just create a small sound that is unique and fresh in it's own way, without going too far with the change, that just sounds like some kind of music.
Experiment as much as you can and just be original. This is what I am doing to find my own sound.

It looks like it is a hell of a task but yeah, you can accomplish it because if you find these things interesting then you are sure to make a future in it.

Get Your Practice Sessions Right.

When i took the decision to set out on my musical journey, i knew that it would take monotonous practice to get there. So i started practicing like hell..i would just pick up my guitar or any other instrument and ramble on for hours. But did that made me good at them? Not at all.  Practice smart, not hard . Cause practicing hard doesn't always mean that you are practicing the right way and learning new things.  But i didn't realize that. I would just grab my instrument and start singing my favorite songs and call it "practice".  And this showed in my playing skills too.  I wasn't able to play correctly.
